CIRCUS WARDROBE – DESIGNERS SKETCHINGS

Here’s a costume from Britney Spears wardrobe for her circus tour. Canadian brothers Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared designed them. Hot. But not as hot as what Miss Tessa of  New Zealand can do. But enjoy anyway!

britney-wardrobe

Could a spark of competition from the wardrobe of Brittney Spear’s “The Circus” tour  be the inspiration behind Beyonce’s revamps?

britney-spears-costume-sketches

That’s what some media outlets are speculating.

beyonces-fierce-world-tour-looks

Sketches have been released of from Beyonce’s up and coming 2009 World Tour wardrobe. Though the drawings come after the “Like a Circus” singer, they have a unique flair of their own.

Apparently Beyonce saw some of French designer Thierry Mugler’s work at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s “Superheroes” exhibit in May, 2008. From there Mugler signed on to be the creative advisor and costume designer of the “Diva” singer’s tour.

The designer told WWD that the costumes are “‘the duality between being a woman and a warrior. Feminine. Free. Warrior. Fierce.”

Celebrity Go Costume Crazy – Dress up Costumes Ideas

Celebs Go Costume Crazy

A few local celebs got into the Halloween spirit for the 2007 Dream Halloween to benefit Children Affected by Aids Foundation. Guests included daring and cute Jamie Lee Curtis, Queen of Hearts Teri Hatcher , trapeze artist Andrea Bowen, slutty victorian Rumer Willis, and a disappointingly costume-less Jason Priestley.

Celebs Go Costume Crazy

Teri had something in common with the infamous Paris Hilton, who showed up at the Playboy Halloween Party dressed like “Alice” in Wonderland Sluttyland. The previous night, she was a slutty nurse. At least she nailed the slutty Halloween costume tradition!

Celebs Go Costume Crazy

Greek Viking /Cisco Adler partied with friends at a club in New York City, while Adrian Grenier spandexed himself into a . . . jogger costume? Whatever he was supposed to be, he still looked cute as ever!

Celebs Go Costume Crazy

Kate Hudson had a Halloween party with guest that included Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon (dressed up in what looked like disguises rather than actual costumes), and of course her always hunky “sailor” stepdad Kurt Russell.

Celebs Go Costume Crazy

“KYLE XY” actor Matt Dallas went old-fashioned to celebrate his 25th Birthday at TAO in Vegas on Saturday and Neil Patrick Harris had the most Halloween “fun” – decked out in a creepy clown getup. You can bet I’ll be looking for him in West Hollywood on Wednesday!

Mini Gaga is fabulous!

laura_fontana

Veik, the 29 year old doll-enthusiast from Beijing, is Gaga for pop queen Lady Gaga! So, it’s not unexpected that he went all Frankenstein on his Mattel Barbie collection, modifying

Lady_Gaga_Sponge_Bob_Barbie

each doll into a mini Gaga clone. The outcome is astonishing, as the mastery involved for the elaborate details produced out of everyday materials, seems to have taken many hours of dedication. In fact, all the bases were covered and nothing had been forgotten to recreate the superstar’s avant-garde fashion cravings — everything from her Alexander McQueen lobster claw heels from the Bad Romance video, to the Minnie Mouse sunglasses from Paparazzi, and even the red face veil and spiked crown from the MTV awards (not to mention, the many hair pieces and extensions). Veik’s has us all wondering if any are for sale

Even Pandas Look Good in YSL!

ysl classics

If you’re a fan of the world’s most fashionable bunny — Fifi Lapin — then it’s likely you’ll find Benda just as endearing. These uber-fashionable panda bears by Chinese artist Ben Liu (currently an art student living in Quebec, Canada) can be see in everything from Yves Saint Laurent couture to stylish super-heroin costumes. (They’ve even been spotted dressed as Andy Warhol and painted into “The Kiss” by Klimt.) I’m just crossing my fingers that he’ll continue to evolve Benda post-graduation. After all, it would be such a waste to see such a fashionable panda disappear.

See, in fashion there’s something called Women’s Ready-to-Wear. They have whole haute couture shows of it. It’s basically anything you can imagine, no matter how freakish.

FRANCE-FASHION/

Awesome! What if I was invited suddenly to ah, um, one of those Tomato Rabbit parties, which could happen. Wow! And if I had to be in a horse race where the jockeys have the body of a human but the head of a grotesque insect? Or wait! Let’s say The Rapture comes, and I need something to wear!

Louis Vuitton Black Silk Bunny Ear Hair Band

This $300 LV headband option, but unfortunately it’s a little out of my budget right now. What about you?  Would you wear designer bunny ears if money was no object? Do you think they’re real-life wearable, or are they good for editorials and fashion parties only? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Would You Wear… Designer Bunny Ears?

bunny-ears-trend

Designers like Marc Jacobs are known to push fashion boundaries and send us outside our sartorial comfort zones. That’s part of what makes them so great – constant designer innovation means more experimentation and new trends to try in real life.

But are designer bunny ears a fashion risk worth taking or too editorial for normal-person wear? You be the judge in this week’s Would You Wear.

The whole designer bunny ears trend can be credited to Louis Vuitton Fall 2009, where designer Marc Jacobs sent various bunny-eared models down the runway. According to Jacobs, who finally explained the bunny ears this summer, the idea came about almost by accident, when he saw a member of his design team wearing fabric tied around her head in a bow that resembled ears. In the interview, Jacobs said “I like the kind of Playboy, French coquette aspect to it.”

Following in Marc’s footsteps, famous hat designer Maison Michel did a line of veiled animal ear headbands, which were spotted recently on the always fashion-forward Olsen twins at an Opening Ceremony party.

Personally, I think this trend is adorable, but I don’t think I’d ever wear a pair in real life! I might make an exception for a more toned-down, bow-like version like this LV headband option, but unfortunately it’s a little out of my budget right now. What about you?

Would you wear designer bunny ears if money was no object? Do you think they’re real-life wearable, or are they good for editorials and fashion parties only? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Givenchy’s Gypsy Outfit – Madonna’s Costumes for Her Sticky and Sweet Tour

Givenchy’s Gypsy Outfit

Most people are lucky to work with Madonna once. Costume designer Arianne Phillips has lasted 11 years, from the singer’s Pre-Raphaelite look for “Ray of Light” to the urban cowgirl of “Music” to the Patty Hearst look of “American Life” and on and on and on. In other words, measured in Madonna time, Phillips is roughly 77 years old. Thankfully, everyone is a bit of an exaggeration, as Phillips goes on to detail a mile-long list of willing collaborators and everything they’ve designed for the trek, which begins Aug. 23 in Cardiff, Wales, and comes to the United States in early October. Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci designed two outfits, while Tom Ford provided bespoke suits for the band. Three pairs of shoes have been custom-made by Miu Miu, there are thigh-high boots courtesy of Stella McCartney, sunglasses from Moschino, and other outfits and odds and ends from Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, and Jeremy Scott.

As in the past, this tour will be divided into four sections. The first references gangsta pimp and Art Deco with Givenchy costumes. This, it would seem, is Madonna’s current take on her longest-running fashion inspiration — the dominatrix. “It’s a theme that runs throughout her career” Phillips says. “She’s not afraid of being hard.” The second section has been termed “Old School,” and harkens back to Madonna’s early days in New York, with Scott’s outfit and some vintage prints from Keith Haring, the late graffiti artist and friend of Madonna who died of AIDS in 1990. “He and Madonna were friends. If he were alive, it would be his 50th birthday as well. So I thought, ‘What if we revisited that?’” Afterward, there’s a gypsy section with more costumes from Givenchy. “Riccardo’s a new young talent. If you look at Madonna’s history with fashion, that makes him an obvious choice.” Finally, there’s a futuristic rave section with lots of Japanese influences. [By Jacob Bernstein}
